MY ULTIMATE SHOPPING TIPS: ONLINE FAVORITES

Mulberry Bayswater

Last week I wrote about my best bargain hunting tips, and this time I’ll highlight how and where I shop online.

I remember my first purchases online, sometime in 2006. I ordered some Too Faced makeup and the Sex and the City box set. 🙂 Hard to believe it’s already been a decade since then! In that time, the world of e-commerce has revolutionized the way people shop. The world is smaller in the sense that you can buy almost anything from any part of the world and have it on your doorstep within days.

Because I want to support my local shop owners, I try to do the majority of shopping locally. I try to only order online the things I couldn’t get in a store here in Helsinki or wherever I’m traveling. Also, if the item in question is considerably affordable online.

ALWAYS USE A CREDIT CARD
When shopping online, I always use a credit card. I don’t have much experience with PayPal, but using a credit card to buy is very safe. Out of all the dozens and dozens of times I have purchased anything online, I’ve had my card information leaked once. In a decade! If there is would be any misuse, the credit card providers have excellent processes in place to prevent and fix it. You’re also better covered in case your item would never find its way to you, the company you bought from would go bankrupt or whatever.

IF YOU DON’T LOVE THE ITEM, RETURN IT
Most stores offer free returns. It’s not worth keeping it if you’re not going to use it. Also, give feedback to the company when they ask why you’re returning the item. Especially, if the item wasn’t as pictured. It helps them improve!

WHY I DON’T BUY JEANS OR UNDERWEAR ONLINE
Because the sizes vary from brand to brand, and they need to fit. If I need to try four different sizes on to find the perfect fit, it’s not worth ordering online, taking the gamble and guessing what your size might be. I’m rarely lucky with a size gamble.

MY FAVORITE ONLINE STORES
The Outnet
has been my ultimate favorite for several years. I have done excellent finds there, such as a classic Michael Kors trench coat, a Halston Heritage LBD, several pairs of sunglasses and ballet flats… All at a bargain. There are new arrivals at least three times a week. If you see something you like, it’s worth grabbing it fast! If you stop to ponder, the item is very likely already gone.

Net-a-Porter is a sister site to The Outnet. NAP has all the designers you could hope for, and their sales are amazing. My sales finds from NAP include Kenzo tiger ballet slippers and Repetto ballet flats.

Monnier Frères is a relatively new shop that carries a great selection of bags and accessories. They have a good array of designers, both classic and more contemporary ones. The Monnier Frères sale section is always worth checking out!

Elady was a wild card I stumbled upon through their Ebay store. Selling pre-owned bags and accessories, they are one of the largest luxury item resellers in Japan. I browse the classic second-hand bags occasionally. Both to see if there would be good bargains and to see the price development. It’s crazy that because e.g. Chanel keeps putting their prices up, the vintage bags keep their value very well.

My Goyard St Louis and Louis Vuitton Keepall are both from Elady. Their classification of the items’ condition is very accurate. All of the defects and signs of usage are clearly visible in the photos. Both of my bags from Elady have been in a better overall condition than expected. The only downside is that there are customs fees from Japan to Finland (and probably to all of Europe).

Banana Republic is one of my favorite clothing brands, and they also have a great online store. If you join their mailing list, you will get an instant 15 % coupon code. They frequently send discount and free shipping codes and have sales regularly, so if you see something you love, it’s usually worth the wait.

Farfetch is an Amazon-like marketplace where lots of independent boutiques come together on one platform. I bought my Stella McCartney Falabella bag from an Italian boutique through Farfetch. Their shipping fees are a little steep, but they frequently offer free shipping.

Louis Vuitton Keepall

Mikäli kyseinen tuote on netissä paljon halvempi, silloin verkkokauppa vie voiton. Pyrin kuitenkin tukemaan paikallisten yrittäjien liiketoimintaa ja en osta ns. päivittäistavaraa tai perusvaatteita netistä.

KĂ„YTĂ„ AINA LUOTTOKORTTIA
Luottokortin käyttö on turvallista.

LEMPINETTIKAUPPANI
Löydät yltä. The Outnet on ehdottomasti lempparini!
