Let’s face it – even though traveling is one of the best things in the world, sometimes the hours on different vehicles of transportation just feel LONG. I’m guessing we all have travel essentials we don’t leave on a trip without – the little details that make the journey as comfortable as possible. See mine below!

- A MAGAZINE
I pick up one or two at the airport, for the moment I get sick of reading a book or watching movies.
- A WARM SHAWL
In addition to using it as a scarf, you can fold it and use it on a pillow, or open it and use it as a blanket. After I found out how rarely most airlines wash their pillows and blankets, I’ve brought my own along. This Balmuir Milan scarf (similar here) is a mix of cashmere and silk, warm, soft and lightweight. (I’m not that happy with the quality otherwise, to be honest. It looks like I’ve had it for 10 years and never took care of it. I really bought it 8 months ago.)
- NOISE-CANCELLING HEADPHONES
I use them to listen to music from my phone, or connect them to the inflight entertainment. Mine are Sony MDR-770X. Some headphones come with an adapter plug with two ends, but I ordered mine online for a few euros. The noise on a plane makes it very difficult for me to fall asleep, so I wear the headphones when I’m trying to sleep, too.
- POUCHES FOR SMALL STUFF
Usually I bring a tote instead of a cabin trolley bag, and it’s easier to keep stuff in order by using pouches. This one and these are so cute!
- HAND SANITIZER, HAND LOTION AND MINTS
There’s a lot of bacteria everywhere since planes are not cleaned thoroughly after every flight. I sanitize my hands after using the lavatory and before eating. If my hands feel dry, I apply lotion on the backs of my hands. Despite drinking a lot of water, your mouth gets really dry on the plane so mints are a good idea.
European airlines hardly ever offer a complimentary meal or a snack. What they have for sale tends to be overpriced and mostly sandwiches, so I always bring some snacks with me. My favorites include carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, hard cheese, nuts or granola bars. I also buy at least two bottles of water from the airport.
The best invention ever for someone who loves to read and doesn’t really need a tablet. Love the adjustable light on my Paperwhite. It doesn’t make my eyes tired at all. Plus, no need to carry around books that take up a lot of space. I warmly recommend getting a cover for your Kindle to protect it. This one is beautiful!
- A SMALL CROSSBODY
For my passport, wallet, phone and all the stuff I need to have handy and keep safe. Mine is from Gucci and I love it to pieces.
