MY DUBAI

Burj Khalifa

Until October last year, I had never been to the United Arab Emirates and in Dubai. To be honest, I wasn’t even that interested in visiting. Not sure why, but maybe coming from a country known for it’s untouched natural beauty, an artificial, air-conditioned oasis in the middle of a desert felt absurd. And why would someone want to build a ski slope in a shopping mall in the middle of a desert?

Then life happened and we ended up visiting Dubai for a long weekend. It was beautiful, warm and comfortable with the most friendly people on every single encounter. Sure, artificial and air-conditioned it was, with highways everywhere. A little too modern and clean as well, as far from “gritty” a place could get. An intriguing mix of history and modern culture, with so much to learn about both. But really, when a country and the people are nothing but friendly and welcoming, consider me won over.

Burj Khalifa

I will be spending some time in Dubai in the coming months, so the UAE will be featured in a lot of posts and images. Getting to know Dubai has been a whirlwind of new things and experiences, and my to do-list just keeps getting longer and longer…There’s so much we haven’t had the chance to do yet, like visit Burj Khalifa, pictured above. (It’s just mind-blowing that there is a building so high that trying to see the top will result in a minor sprain in one’s neck – I wish I was kidding!)

Madinat Jumeirah

I feel like this will be one of the major adventures of 2016. And I’m definitely saying yes!

Have you ever been to Dubai or somewhere else in the UAE or would you be interested to visit?

Taustahälinä on ihan eri tasolla vaikka Helsinkiin verrattuna.

Koska elämä on vienyt meidät nauttimaan Dubaista muutaman kerran viime kuukausina, Dubai ja UAE-aiheisia postauksia tulee näkymään blogissa tulevina viikkoina useamminkin. Terveiset täältä auringon alta!

    1. Hi Marla,
Love your blog! Thank you for your comment and the suggestion – I’ll definitely do a post on healthy eating here in Dubai, there’s a lot of options for different diets.

  2. I would love to visit Dubai- I have heard so many wonderful things about it and I can’t believe what the buildings look like!! I am looking forward to reading more about your adventures!

    1. You have to! The buildings are just amazing! I’m sure it would be a place with the least trees you have ever seen, but it’s still beautiful.
